After some bad weather during our rest days at Peter Lougheed we continued on the GDT towards Field. Unfortunately the Rockwall trail was closed due to wildfires in the region.
The first two days we had very nice weather again. But then, coming over Palliser Pass, going into Banff NP the smoke hit us.
Other hikers told us that they could not see Mount Assiniboine standing directly in front of Lake Magog. For us it was not that bad and we could still at least see the mountains …
BUT coming over Healy Pass we decided to bail at the Redearth Creek trail. The smoke was so thick that we really had problems breathing and standing directly in front of Pharaoh Peaks we could not see the mountain. However at least we were lucky to spot a big black bear on the way out . And the next few days were a lot better with the smoke 🙂
